North Vancouver, BC
The Water Learning Centre is an indoor/outdoor classroom that will uncover the unique features of the watershed, helping to convey the story of water, promote the sustainable use of water and introduce the public to the watershed and treatment facilities in a hands-on, experiential way. In Vancouver we take water for granted. Our city overflows with lush waterfront amenities and panoramic ocean views. It also rains—a lot. However, the infrastructure that treats and delivers all of that water to our taps remains largely hidden from view.
The architecture will help convey the story of water’s journey from mountain reservoirs into the city. Constructed from fluid materials, in forms derived from flow, the building highlights the symbiotic connection between the natural environment and human infrastructure in the provision of our drinking water.
