CITY OF VICTORIA (WITH PWL LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTS)
20 SQ KM
PUBLIC created City of Victoria’s citywide wayfinding strategy to help guide visitors and locals around the city on foot and bicycle. The process was part of a public realm design guideline development project and incorporates a robust public and stakeholder engagement process. Highly consultative, the work includes coordination of information from a variety of civic departments, BC Transit, MOTI, Greater Victoria Harbour Authority and many neighbourhood groups.
The system is built upon tested wayfinding principles of progressive disclosure, legibility and consistency and incorporates placenaming by the local Lekwungen First Nation. The result is a set of 7-8 sign types which are currently being implemented by the City in a three-year phased process.
