A weekend home for a young family, designed to create a half courtyard condition that screens the garden from the neighbours while maximizing natural light. It creates both an open but protected sanctuary. Simple materials were used to enhance the sense of ease and relaxation that the clients wished for in their inexpensive 'get-away' home. The garden becomes the focus of the home with all principal rooms looking outward on to the court. Generous amounts of natural light help balance the simple materials. A solid cedar entry door becomes the transition between city and country life. Trusses, masonry fireplace, and an open plan are the defining elements of the home and which reflect the open, warm and familiar nature of the clients.
