BC Transit commissioned Public to develop prototype transit shelter concepts for a province-wide launch of their recent identity rebranding. Recognizing the value of custom architecture and communication design, BC Transit desired a system that would accommodate BC’s varied climatic regions while incorporating graphics and signage that might represent the respective identity of each community. Using Kelowna’s new bus rapid transit system as a testing ground, the shelter uses a modular construction system, allowing it to be deployed at different scales. The “infrastructural” roof contains all facilities for lighting, signage and drainage, and permits flexible arrangements of seating, customer information, and bike lockers below.
