PUBLIC designed this innovative office building to accommodate four distinct union organizations within a single building. The building reflects the changing needs of unions and overcomes its highway-oriented location by organizing itself on a single floor around an exterior courtyard, providing a tranquil microclimate and separating the building into quadrants to create distinct department identities. Administrative hubs face onto the courtyard and anchor the offices and break-out meeting areas for each department. Flexible, shared meeting rooms will be used for education, negotiations, and community gatherings. In order to shape an identity for the complex, PUBLIC did the research and development work for the building naming, taking clues from the local history and future aspirations of the user groups.
