PUBLIC deftly integrates brand, identity, and materiality into this small, secure, and impactful bike shelter in the growing Engineering precinct at UBC's Point Grey campus. The secure metal screen offers safety by way of visibility, while providing a view onto the thematic mural along the back wall. Taking inspiration from the famous School of Engineering red jackets, the mural offers a dynamic and energizing backdrop. The eye-catching quality of the project further enhances security in a non-material way. The bike shelter encourages multi-modal commuting and sustainable transportation choices by providing students access to 70 safe and secure stalls as well as amenities such as end of trip facilities (lockers, a bench, bicycle repair tools, and power outlets for power-assisted bicycles.
